Gathering of the Youth Exchange Students in Norway

By Irina A. Tanase, OIRC Past President 2023 – 2024

Last weekend, 20 Youth Exchange students from all over the world – spending one year in Norway through the Rotary Exchange Program have met – and several Rotarians from all the Norwegian Districts have worked together to arrange a nice gathering.

Mariela Adjad Garcia and Gul Capar, members of our Club with long experience and engagement for the work with Youth Exchange, have joined the students for this special day.

Despite the rainy weather, the students had a wonderful time, visiting several touristic sights in Lillestrøm and Drøbak, such as Eidsvoll 1814, the place where the Norwegian Constitution was drawn up and signed in 1814, and the Oscarsborg fortress, situated on the Oslo fjord, with an important function of defending the seaward approach to the capital.

During their stay in Norway, Youth Exchange students gather several times for a diversity of social, cultural or leisure events. Traditionally, their are attending district conferences. In District 2310, this Rotary year’s conference will be held on the 26th of October at Thon Hotel Vettre, in Asker.

We are looking forward to meeting our visiting students!
