It has become a tradition to share with all our friends the news about our work with the students at the Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU), in Bangladesh! This year, we became even better known with them, having regular digital meetings, joining online gatherings with them and their teachers, and being there when they want to share with us the joy of a new academic achievement, a new recognition of their efforts, or simply receiving the OIRC scholarship.
At our last meeting with the students, we had the honor of having among us Helle Kjørlaug, incoming District Governor in Rotary District 2310, and earlier president of Skaugum Rotary Club. Helle was happy to meet the students and the teachers, and to be better known with Tarin Tabascum, a Master grade student in our scholarship program, attending the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology. Skaugum Rotary Club has earlier joined our Club’s efforts in supporting students at the University of Sylhet, and Tarin’s scholarship is covered by them.
We in Oslo International Rotary Club are delighted to share that Skaugum Rotary Club will continue to support our work in Bangladesh through the next Rotary year. If you, too, want to join our efforts in supporting students from vulnerable families, studying at at the Sylhet Agricultural University in Bangladesh, please let us know. You will be joining an increasingly larger family of supporters, driven by both the desire to make a difference, and the trust that our efforts create valuable and lasting change to the community in Sylhet.
Many of our supporters have joined our forces after the Rotary Youth leadership Awards, held this April by our Club at Lily Country Club. On this occasion, our guest speakers have received gift cards with one month support for one of our students, with the possibility of extending their support.
In January 2025, our Club plans to visit the Sylhet Agricultural University, in Bangladesh, and our students.
