OIRC Youth Work

by Irina Tanase, OIRC President 2023 – 2024, March 2024

It is within the nature of our Club to focus on youth and their development, when it comes to making the greatest possible difference, both locally and internationally. And 2024 started with great news and developments in all directions of our work.

OIRC and ORC Youth Exchange student goes to France

Ingrid Haugland is a student at Elvebakken highschool and through the Rotary Youth Exchange program, she will travel to France to live and study for one year, with the support of Oslo International Rotary Club and Oslo Rotary Club.

The commission assessing candidate students for the program was impressed of how well she came prepared to the interview, her strong values, expectations, and her ability to represent our Rotary community during this journey. In April, Ingrid and her parents will attend the training for this year’s exchange students. We cheer her on!

OIRC will support two participant students at RYLA 2024

As the organiser of this year’s District 2310 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards our club decided to support two young talents as participants for the conference. The two youths are;

Lindsey Scott who is our Club’s current scholarship student within the Rotary Global Grant Scholarship Program. Lindsey is from Canada, and while in Oslo she studies BioScience at The University of Oslo.

OIRC has had the great pleasure of getting to know Lindsey as a close friend and a freaquent guest/contributor at our meetings. The Rotary supporting club from Canada is the Rotary Club of Calgary Olympic.

Thea Kjær-Klavenes has successfully finished her IB diploma and is taking a gap year working before going to university. During her years as a student in the IB program at Nesbru Highschool,

Thea started the Project “Less Alone” together with some of her fellow students. The main purpose of the project is to raise awareness, to spread important information and a meaningful message about mental health.

OIRC is very proud to have such talented and engaged young women to represent our club! Please read more about the conference we arrange here.

Great results for the students receiving the OIRC Scholarship

Professor Tilak Nah, Associate Professor of Parasitology and Director of External Affairs at The Sylhet Agricultural University, the partner for our scholarship program, presented an update on the activity of the scholarship students, and we couldn’t have been proud!

Scholars under the program have consistently demonstrated exceptional academic performance, maintaining a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of above 3.50 in their last semester evaluations, revealed the Professor in a recent report. Most of the scholars have progressed to Level 3 of their respective academic programs, indicating their steady academic advancement and commitment to their studies. Postgraduate scholars have successfully completed their first semester and are currently engaged in their second semester, showcasing their dedication to advancing their knowledge and skills in their chosen fields. We in Oslo International Rotary Club are permanently looking for means to further developing our work with students. If you want to know more about the program, or how to support it, please reach out to us.
